The best among the best are now here to prove that Madness will not end on March and that winning the national championships is the victory of all. Who will be the winners of the NCAA Final Four 2018 Men and Women basketball tournament? Stay tuned!
There's no stopping Loyola-Chicago, not even his biggest fan, Sister Jean, who had put on her bracket that the Ramblers fell on the Sweet 16. The Cinderella is still alive and is within a game of entering the Final Four in San Antonio. Amazing. This time they faced another of the revelations of Great Dance, Nevada. Two mid-majors friends of the epic, though each in his own way. The Wolfpack through historical comebacks and the Ramblers on the horn. And none failed. It entered better in the Nevada game, through brothers Martin (37 points between the two) and Jordan Caroline (19 points and 6 rebounds), they were 8-20 putting the game in danger. But then came Loyola-Chicago's reaction, in the hands of Marques Townes (18 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists) the Ramblers did a partial of 20-4 before the break. In the first half, 28-24 for the team of Sister Jean, followed the same trend after passing through the changing rooms, Loyola-Chicago commanded the scoreboard getting rents even 10 points. But Nevada again used its strategy of all the matches so far in the tournament, the comeback. The score was squeezed in the final minutes, although the Wolfpack could not catch the head. Then the epic appeared again for the Ramblers with a triple after step-back by Marques Townes, again in the final seconds. Loyola-Chicago won again 69-68 to end the Nevada dream. The Cinderella is still alive.
We said that the southern region of the bracket of this Madness was the most unexpected because the first 4 seeds of the painting had fallen. So Kentucky (#5) seemed to have the way clear until the Final Four. Well, no. This March Madness is the craziest of the last years and anyone can fall. Kansas State advances to the Elite 8 for the thirteenth time in its history and leaves John Calipari and his freshmen in the ditch. Kentucky came at its best of the season with an elite defense and Gilgeous-Alexander growing by leaps and bounds, but they came across a game played in the mud where each basket was worth its weight in gold. Kansas State's overwhelming start by Xavier Sneed with 2 3-pointers, 13-2 and time-out by John Calipari. Although the Wildcats overcame the first hit, they failed to get ahead on the scoreboard in the first half. At halftime, 33-29 for Kansas State. In addition, the power forward Dean Wade, one of his best players, returned to the field after missing the first three games of the final tournament. In the second part the equality was maximum, and in that game the experience is a degree, something that Kentucky by its philosophy does not have. The freshman litter of John Calipari suffered a lot in that slow and ugly game proposed by Bruce Weber. Sample of them was the success in the free throw, 62% for Kentucky, being bleeding the case of PJ Washington with an 8/20. Kansas State knew better to control the possessions in the final minutes and the basket of Barry Brown in the absence of 19 seconds was decisive. 61-58 for Kansas State and goodbye to Kevin Knox and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the NCAA. Therefore we will see a more than unexpected KansasSt vs Loyola/Chicago in the Elite 8 for a ticket to San Antonio.
The other big surprise of the night was the victory of Florida State over Gonzaga. The Seminoles advance for the first time to the Elite 8 since the 1992/1993 season. The Bulldogs have not shown at any time of the Grand Ball the favorite label for the Final 4. They suffered a lot against the UNCG of Francias Alonso and also before the Ohio State of Keita Bates-Diop. Key players like Josh Perkins and Jonathan Williams have not made the grade , being the veteran leaders of the Zags. Florida State, on the other hand, has shown that beating Michael Porter's Missouri and favorite Xavier has not been an isolated event. The Seminoles were superior from start to finish after a great choral game, with Terance Mann (18 points and 5 rebounds) showing himself as the best.Gonzaga could not impose his game or plant war, despite the great game of Rui Hachimura (16 points and 9 rebounds). At the end 60-75 for Florida State and another bracket more destroyed. In the only game with some common sense, Michigan went over Texas A & M , 99-72. The Wolverines so far had not shown the level with which they rose to the title of the Big 10. But Michigan always appears in the Great Dance. Thanks to a first part skimming perfection the Wolverines broke the match. Moritz Wagner (21 points) was the undisputed leader of the match, doing what he wanted when he wanted. Michigan made a great defenseon the inside game of the Aggies, Tyler Davis (24 points and 8 rebounds) and Roberts Williams (12 points and 6 rebounds), but the key was the little hit outside. Therefore we will see a nice Michigan-Florida State for a place in the Final 4.
Friday night began with an exciting Kansas-Clemson. Many experts predicted Clemson's surprise since Kansas is being irregular. Nothing could be further from reality, those of Bill Self entered with desire in the encounter getting the first rents on the scoreboard, 11-4. But Clemson responded by the hand of Gabe DeVoe (31 points and 9 rebounds ). Even so, Elijah Tomas could not stop the inner game of the Jayhawks and Udoka Azubuike (14 points and 11 rebounds) was at ease in the vicinity of the ring. At rest, 40-27. After passing through the locker room, Kansas extended the gap with a great Malik Newman (17 points and 7 rebounds). But Clemson's reaction came in a game that seemed doomed. The Tigers even placed themselves at only 6 points with two and a half minutes to go. E n the game of free throws to end the Jayhawks will not shake his hand and won by 80-76. Third consecutive season in which Kansas gets into the Elite 8 where it will be measured in a real match to Duke. L os Coach K struggled to beat the Syracuse upset by 65-69. Face to face two of the most successful coaches, Jim Boeheim and Mike Krzyzewski. First minutes of scoring in which equality was absolute, but the Blue Devils pressed the accelerator at the end of the first part. Commanded by Marvin Bagley (22 points and 7 rebounds) Duke got a partial 0-10 to close the first part , they had found the key to open the area of the Orangemen. Despite Dolezaj's fouling problems, Syracuse adjusted his 2-3 defense and re-entrusted his star Tyus Batlle (19 points and 5 rebounds) to match the contest. But in that Duke tug of war, the Orangemen failed to get ahead on the scoreboard and stayed with the honey on the lips. Great, and unexpected, tournament of Syracuse after his polemic invitation to the Great Dance. Bill Self and Coach K will play a ticket to San Antonio.
Beautiful game that played Villanova and West Virginia in Boston, one of the best of this March Madness to date. The two teams came out from the first minute with the knife between their teeth. Those of Bob Huggins with his asphyxiating pressure the whole court and Villanova doing damage when he left the same. Despite the fouls problems of Divincenzo and Bridges Villanova, he went ahead in the score at halftime, 42-44. Nice duel under the rings between Konate (12 points and 9 rebounds) and Spellman (18 points and 8 rebounds), but the biggest difference was the success in the triple, where the Jay Wright scored 13/24. To this we must add the exhibition of the undisputed best player of the NCAA: Jalen Brunson (27 points and 4 assists). Villanova broke the game definitively in the last minutes. In the end, 78-90 in the farewell of a legend like Jevon Carter. The Wildcats become the top favorites for the title. Although in the Elite 8 they will have to fight against Texas Tech, who beat Purdue by 78-65 and are planted for the first time in their history in this round. The choral work of the Texans was too much for an inspired Carsen Edwards (30 points). Up to 4 players above the 12 points among which Keenan Evans was the star of the team. The Boilermarkers paid faces for their 18 losses and have missed Isaac Haas a lot in the final rounds.
