It is one of the most anticipated RPGs of the year that aims to return us to reality, escaping from the common places linked to fantasy RPGs. Will it make a hole in our kingdom?
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is one of the RPGs that has caused more hype in the face of its release in 2018 . You can tell that the gamers are thirsty for a good role-playing game with a medieval cut that will help us survive the long wait until a new The Elder Scrolls arrives as Bethesda assures that there is not yet a new game of the saga on the horizon .
Far from wanting to imitate any present or past role title, Kingdom Come: Deliverance aims to debut as a new type of game within the RPG genre based on the emulation of the bloody and bloody battles of the Middle Ages, fought to achieve greater territory and power. We will see if this new formula manages to conquer the kingdom of our hearts, making a hole in our shelves.
The hard struggle for freedom, and power
Kingdom Come: Deliverance will come to PS4, Xbox One and PC next February 13 and its developers (Warhorse Studios) have already announced that it will bring improvements for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. While on PS4 and Xbox One it will run at 900p, it will do so at 1440p on Xbox One X and 1080p on PS4 Pro, including much superior graphic effects on these systems.
In addition to the graphical improvements for the most powerful platforms, the guys from Warhorse Studios try to surprise us with a game that moves away from the commonplaces in the RPG titles. Nothing of magic, nor strange animals or creatures in this title, Kingdom Come: Deliverance wants to bathe us in a good dose of pure and hard realism.
Far from being a negative point, the truth is that the title achieves what is proposed in this section although at times it leaves a bitter taste because of its unbalanced difficulty when it comes to fighting against our enemies. The premise is simple but effective: you will be the son of a blacksmith whose family has been killed during the war forged in the Kingdom of Bohemia (Czech Republic).
Therefore, and although you will cross and wade places full of impressive forests, with a wealth and landscape majesty that competes fully with The Elder Scrolls or The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , but without any hint of magical elements. Kingdom Come: Deliverance pretends to be and is a full-fledged interactive historical narrative that probably does not get to hook the rolero public at all.
Perhaps, one of the most conflicting points of this title is the overly realistic combat system that has been created. We like it to be a game that wants to imitate the truly real, to look for that experience close to the battlefield without hiding any detail or impediment, but sometimes it is too much. Getting control of weapons and other tools is not very intuitive , and it will take more than one attempt to overcome certain phases of battles for this reason.
However, this is something that could be solved in the face of the exit of the game or with a posteriori patch, to avoid the tremendous frustration caused by not being able to defend or attack as necessary: difficult, okay; impossible, we do not like it. Impress the fact that it penalizes (and a lot of) the movement to wear an armor , or even a helmet, since our vision will be restricted.
We believe that these details are brilliant and add to the realistic quality of the game, but we thought that a revision of the combat would be necessary to avoid throwing the knob out the window. After all, the gameplay is an essential feature, without which a game can never occupy a prominent place in the hearts of gamers or critics .
We think that if you manage to solve this point that does not quite convince, we could be facing one of the most different RPGs of recent years. It is possible that its great emphasis on the historical aspect is not a claim for many, but the infiltration missions and certain battles for power (if we solve the controls in the latter), leave with much, much more.
But Kingdom Come: Deliverance is not exempt of bugs and serious failures in the positioning of the cameras or in some of the animations, reason why the boys of Warhouse Studios will have to put the batteries if it does not want that these fog the possibilities of conquest and expansion that your game has.
Is a new type of RPG possible?
It seems that everything points to that we are facing the birth of a new type of RPG , what remains to be seen is whether it will achieve the expected success and if it ends up convincing despite the lack of fantastic and magical elements. This question should not be an impediment to enjoy a very interesting story, with missions that get hooked, although (sometimes) it seems that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a title half-cooked.
We hope that the work and effort employed in doing something really different and innovative will pay off and get a new sub-genre rolero for those who enjoy more of the most inveterate historical strategy with titles like Age of Empires IV, and that they missed a game of this caliber. The letters are already posted, we will see what future awaits Kingdom Come: Deliverance this February 13.
