Many participants at the start of the NASCAR 2018 season know that they will lose their position after the damage suffered to their primary cars in the Duels.
Since Friday morning, eight pilots were forced to take their backup cars after suffering damage during the Thursday night duels. These eight participants will lose their original start position and fall to the back of the grid to take the start on Sunday afternoon.
Brad Keselowski, Austin Dillon, Aric Almirola, William Byron, Matt DiBenedetto, Kyle Larson, Jimmie Johnson and David Gilliland are the eight drivers who have so far turned to their secondary car.
Four of the teams were also forced to resort to reserve engines: Keselowski, Almirola, DiBenedetto and Johnson.
The situation could change on Saturday in the last practice round ahead of the Daytona 500.

The Mexican Daniel Suarez achieved a best time of 45.036 seconds (199.840 mph) followed by the Toyotas of Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. David Ragan, Danica Patrick, Bubba Wallace, Kyle Busch, Brendan Gaughan, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Justin Marks completed the best 10.
The Penske team topped the table at the start of the 50 minute session with Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski leading the session. Keselowski completed 19 laps in his backup car with a top speed of 193.482 mph.
The best of the four laps of Logano in his initial race was 195.844 mph. Johnson made his debut with his new car, but after three laps he barely managed to reach 16th place. Eight minutes later, defending Daytona 500 winner Kurt Busch moved up to second place with a top speed of 192.282mph after four laps.
After the first 10 minutes, Denny Hamlin moved to the top (198.706 mph) followed by Kyle Busch and Daniel Suarez. Martin Truex Jr., joined the race and climbed to third place (199.694mph) just after Suárez (199.840mph) jumped to the first position. David Ragan, Danica Patrick, Bubba Wallace, Kyle Busch, Brendan Gaughan, Justin Marks and Trevor Bayne were in the top 10.
Thirty minutes after the session, Austin Dillon entered the top 10 with a lap of 197.455mph followed by Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, Alex Bowman, Bayne, Michael McDowell, AJ Allmendinger, Kyle Larson Kurt Busch and Logano.
Daniel Suarez finished eighth on Thursday at the Daytona International Speedway, when the Can-Am Duel 1 took place, ahead of the Daytona 500.
The result in the 2.5 mile (4.02 km) super oval gave the Monterrey his first points of the season and puts him in 17th place on the starting grid on Sunday.
The Monterrey-born start the Daytona 500 from the ninth row, after playing one of the two qualifying races before the competition, where he was affected in the first laps of the race.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver started from fourth position and had a good start, leading the race for a moment.
On lap seven, the Mexican was affected by an accident between Jimmie Johnson and Aric Almirola. Both touched, fortunately Daniel Suarez had a great reaction, avoiding the shock. However, his car was affected.
During the rest of the competition, Suarez dedicated himself to stay away from accidents, as two more yellow flags were presented. The last, in the absence of a couple of laps from the end, so the race finished in overtime, with a total of 63 laps.
