The Narcos series has released its third season on Netflix. This time he will tell us the intricate history of the Cali Cartel. New faces and new plots join this drama based on real life, one of the most successful titles on this famous streaming platform.
When the first season of Narcos finished we were sure not to want a second delivery, because to the more well-known story of Pablo Escobar had very little left to arrive at its tragic end and we believed then that the successful formula of the first delivery could hardly be keep for longer seasons. Even so, the second season was very successful and it seems that Netflix is still betting on this title that, if this continues, will address stories of other bosses.
In the hands of Peña
Our well-known agent Javier Peña, played by Pedro Pascal, returns to Colombia to go after the Cali cartel , headed by the Rodríguez Orejuela brothers, as well as the self-proclaimed "Caballeros de Cali", Pacho Herrera and Chepe Santacruz.
Peña soon realizes that in addition to the bosses there is a network of corrupt characters that make the lucrative business work. Now with more hierarchy within the DEA, however, it will be on the nose with those interests and people who work with double agenda. The new agents sent to support Peña will gradually fires in the difficult life of agents of the DEA in lands taken by the narco. It is Peña who now acts as narrator, who explains the panorama, the business and the identities of those involved in history.
New faces
The stories of all those involved in the Cali cartel operations are very interesting . We will have, besides the main plot, a handful of stories that keep the rhythm of the episodes. This third season of Narcos keeps you much more hooked than you can believe, although there is a small curve of adaptation to the new story, now without the character of Escobar.
In spite of the above, at least you imagine you will already be in the middle of the series. Undoubtedly, Narcos is ideal for marathoning . The new characters are very prominent and the stories soon take flight. One of the new faces is none other than Miguel Ángel Silvestre (who has also enjoyed another original series of Netflix: Sense8 ) and José María Yazpik, who plays the role of Amado Carrillo, better known as "The Lord of the Skies". Character that, by the way, lets see the intentions of the series in focusing on its fourth season in the poster of Juárez.
An addictive drama
It is true that Narcos catches attention with different resources: tension, action, police format, however, if you feel that sometimes abuses some of these elements, there are even situations where there is clearly no likelihood. Scenes somewhat removed from the sleeve to create tension and, in the long run, are not relevant.
In spite of this, we will find ourselves glued to the screen to see the resolution of the intricate events of this drama. A great success is the archival footage, which, however strong it may seem, reminds us that this series is based on real events, many times painful and with which a lot of people have suffered. Although we focus here on the program and nothing else, the discussion of whether this kind of series and films are an apology to the world of drug trafficking is very far from being resolved.
Nothing is the same
Narcos seems to have set the mark too high for herself. The first installment of this series remains, by far, the best of the franchise . Maybe the formula is worn out or the resources are no longer surprising or both but definitely the third delivery is far from the make and force of the first delivery.
Of course, the best of this third season are the performances . In particular Damián Alcázar, the one in charge of giving life to Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela and whom we already knew of the previous season, is an actor who always surprises. Many of the new faces are chosen actors with great skill.
So, get ready for a good marathon with the third season of Narcos that has been available to all Netflix subscribers since this September 1st.
