Christian actor Dennis Quaid recently appeared on the Today Show to discuss his role in the new film "I Can Only Imagine," which is based on the popular song by MercyMe of the same title.
'I Can Only Imagine' tells the story of how MercyMe vocalist Bart Millard wrote the song, which became not only a hit on Christian radio, but also a very popular song translated into several languages.
Millard grew up with abusive father who finally experience redemption. It was often music that caught Bart in his darkest days.
Speaking to Today Show hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kitb, Quaid, who has previously been part of the faith-based film Soul Surfer, said he was attracted to the film because of it redeeming element, even though it had not been familiar with the song before the part was offered.
"It hit me so deeply," he said. "I wanted to be part of this. I think that each person does it on their own personal life... and that's what is beautiful. And we hope we have achieved the same in the movie."
"It's not a Hollywood redemption story," he continued. "I Can Only Imagine" will be in theaters next week, March 16, 2018.
